at the moment if category contains only subcategories and no images, it has some default thumb - \"no images\". it would be nice if we would be able to set custom thumb for each category.

I agree. Has anyone found a way around this. This is stoppping me from using this gallery. - Yes, you can change the jpg of the no pic image but then they all would be the same.

a way around this is to place just one picture in the parent category, it will be visible the of course, you might not want that, but for now that should be the way to do it

I agree that assigning a picture to a category would be need feature, I will discuss it with the other devs

what is easier to modify / code ...

- the manual selection of a thumb

or

- the automatic selection of a sub-category\'s thumb

automatic would be much easier.  coding a user option will take some database hacking.
