So this is what is done right now:

$mainframe->setPageTitle( ' '. $this->gallery->get('name') );
$mainframe->appendMetaTag( 'description', $this->gallery->get('description') );

Basically it adds the gallery name to the title and the description to the description meta tag.  Obviously we could be doing more.  What exactly would you guys like to see?

Obvious addition: meta keywords for each picture, for main gallery page and for each sub-gallery  (controlled from the backend?).
 Smiley
That way it would be more optimized for search engines.

It would be better to control meta data (Description, Keywords, Title) for each gallery like in Joomla - Articles and to have an additional options: use globals / use parent gallery settings
