Lucky I backed up before attempting to pare down my extraneous templates that I installed for experimentation.   I had done quite a bit of tweaking to a couple templates.  When I attempted to uninstall a template, it roasted my entire templates folder.  I restored and tried again just to be sure.  Yep. Totally destructive. Carefull everybody.
