The back to <main gallery> link is basic, but I think it would be good to also have a back to <parent gallery> link.
Maybe with a setting in the backend to enable/disable it.
so when you have a structure as:
MAIN
   Topic
      Subtopic1
      Subtopic2
      ...
   Topic2
      Subtopic1
      Subtopic2
     ....
....
It is not easy to navigate through it right now. The only way is to go back to main and start from new,
when changing to another gallery.

I have a gallery that is much like the one you described.  This seems like it would be easy to implement this type of function, and it would be a huge plus for people with galleries structured like ours.  Is there not a way to mod this in as a temporary fix?

hmm, yes, this has been requested before, and I know some people hacked it to be this way, have a look in the showcase board, you might find something there
