Nightly Builds

We are now offering nightly builds.  A snapshot of the SVN repository is taken at midnight UTC every night, compressed into Joomla component installers and stamped with the current date and SVN revision.

Why nightly builds?

As development progresses, the focus is now on stability and bugfixing. The nightly builds incorporate all the small fixes that have been made to the core. In offering you nightly builds, we have the possiblity to get your feedback on the changes very quickly and offer the users more involvement in the project. So the main goal for us is quicker feedback on changes we make.

Risks

There are some risks though. These nightly build are not tested the way alpha and beta releases are. This makes them unsuitable for productions sites. If you follow a few rules, this shouldn't be a problem.

  1. Do not use them on a production website but setup a local environment using for example a XAMP solution.
  2. Backup your installation first.
  3. Most Nightly Builds can be installed using the archive file but this is not guaranteed. If install from the backend fails, copying the files directly over the old one is also possible (and time consuming).
  4. Nightly builds do not contain database changes, so no database changes are needed.
  5. Set debug to "Yes" in RSGallery2->Control Panel->Configuration

Feedback

To discuss feedback on the nightly builds, we made a special forum, called "Nightly Builds Feedback ". Discuss the latest nightly build at the Nightly Builds in here. As the versions change quickly, there are also some rules to follow when posting in here.

uterus

  1. Start topic subject with [SVN-XXX], where XXX is the SVN number from the build. You can get that number from the filename of the nightly build. So a topic subject  could be:   "[SVN-382] - Backend batchupload button fails to show".
  2. Create meaningful topic subjects. A topic called "[SVN-XXX] - Many errors!!!!" does not say that much. Try to be as specific as possible
  3. Provide as a minimum: Joomla version, PHP version, Front- or backend error.
  4. Describe in short what you were doing, where you were doing it and specify any error message you receive.

Where to find the nightly builds

There are two ways to find the nightly builds:

  1. Look at the nightly builds module on the right side of the website.
  2. You can view the build list at: https://www.rsgallery2.net/nightly/  Please note the main nightly is a new fork for Joomla! 1.5 only.  Joomla! 1.0 and 1.5 users are welcome to use the Legacy nightly as well.

SVN Access

If you are comfortable using SVN, you could access the SVN repository directly and do a checkout. To access SVN anonymously, goto the following link:
